Two months ago I blogged about a soon to be released documentary called “I Am Eleven”, a film that focuses on global issues from the perspective of eleven year olds. Since then I’ve received several comments on that blog post from the films director Genevieve Bailey. Genevieve, a fellow Aussie, is obviously very passionate about global issues and of course children. But, more than that she is obviously hugely passionate about her film and spreading her message - so much so that she keeps in correspondence with a small-time blogger like myself. It’s really refreshing to see this kind of commitment from an individual & wonderful to feel so connected to this project. Without a doubt I can definitely say I’ll be heading along to an Australia screening when the documentary is finally released.

I want to suggest to all reading this - check out the films website, watch the trailer, join the mailing list and see them documentary when it’s released!

Wow, I’m so glad I stumbled upon this post. This looks amazing to me.

I just sat here and enjoyed Tumblr for the first time in months.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love posting on here, and have been posting regularly on my Backseat Goodbye blog as usual…
But I just realized I haven’t had the time to actually sit here, and enjoy the Tumblr community in so long.

So, I’m gonna see about taking a few extra minutes each day to get up to date on my own personal interests and writing on this blog. I mean, come on, this was my original Tumblr… No use in letting it be lonely any longer.

In defense of Jon Gosselin.

I posted this on Twitter early this afternoon: “I understand why people hate Jon Gosselin, but I don’t agree at all.”

And the first response to me for that post said something to the likes of: “How can you not hate him?…. He’s a terrible father.”

And this is NOT a response to that exact blurb sent my way at all, (so please, if you happen to read this, don’t think I’m attacking you at all, because I’m not trying to) but this is a response to the thought that Jon Gosselin is a terrible father.

My first reaction when I hear anything to the gist of the above about Jon these days, is: have YOU ever been in a divorce, personally? Have you ever been a child in the middle of a divorce, personally? Because I have. My parents are divorced, and have been since I was quite young. And the thing is, divorce sucks, plain and simple…. however, it is something that is between the two people that have made the decision. Yes, that decision does directly affect the children in many ways, however… the fact that two people get a divorce does NOT make them terrible parents (or terrible people, for that matter.)

I guess that’s really my entire point. I understand that these “magazines” (if you even want to call them that) have EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS, BREAKING NEWS ON JON & KATE, and so on…. but please, point me in the direction of where you see either of these humans being bad parents (this is where you go digging for links to exclusive photos of “Jon ruining the kids” or “Kate going crazy!”) but that’s the other side of my point, why the hell are people getting so worked up over things typed up in magazines that are made to make money. It’s been proven in the past that these I’m talking about have “bent the truth” for headlines.

I mean, really…. do people not realize that life goes on? I’ve never been IN a divorce, I’ve only been a child in the middle of one… but you know, I would imagine you have to move on from the past eventually. I’m not saying forget everything happened with the person, or forget the kids…. but eventually you have to go out and date again. So, why in the world are people freaking out that they’re seeing other people. Why are people surprised that Jon is with a different girl on every cover? Did these people decide to not notice that Jon has been quoted saying, he’s not looking for anything serious right now.

Here’s where you say: “How is Jon being a “man-whore” going to be good for the kids?” And that’s just plain ridiculous… I’m sorry, but the people that say that, obviously have never had parents that are divorced. I mean, really, people date, at ALL ages. It’s pretty cool, you can be 19 and date as many girls or guys as you want, AND you can be 29, 49, 89, or whatever age you’d like, and if you’re a single person, you’re morally and personally free to date whomever the hell you’d like. Pretty crazy concept, huh?

I’m going to end it on this… really people, I get the arguments, I’ve heard a lot of the views of how Jon is not only a terrible parent, but a terrible human. But in all reality, I don’t think he is at all. I have been a fan of the show, and literally seen every episode from the first 4 seasons (I actually literally own every DVD of the show, expcept for disc 2 of Season 4)…. and if you’ve ever watched the show, it’s very very very easy to see that both Jon & Kate are actually great parents who love their kids to death. Sure, they bickered, and jeered at each other from time to time, but everyone sees now that the relationship between them was one that just couldn’t make it. However, the relationship between their children and themselves is one that is very easy to see as something wonderful.

This that I’ve typed probably won’t change any minds, but I hope it will help bring some light to the fact that Jon is a human. Please realize, humans aren’t perfect. I’m flawed, and so are you. Also, please realize, the reason Jon Gosselin is a “terrible person” in many people’s eyes, is because the magazines are making him out to be. Maybe you haven’t noticed that originally everyone made Kate out to be the good one out of this (now I’m pretty sure they’re saying she’s terrible too)…. when in all actuallity, there is no “good one” and “bad one” here,… there’s just two humans trying to figure out their own lives. So please, take a step back from devouring everything the media feeds you, and realize you’ve got your own life to live, there’s no need in wasting it by judging others’.

SIDENOTE: I just typed this all pretty quickly, and don’t feel like proofreading it, so I’m gonna post this little guy as is. I didn’t realize I had this much to say on the subject, but it’s a TV show I’ve actually loved for a while now, so I guess it’s not too surprising to see I do have a little bit to say about it :)

Rain Songs (A Poem from Waking Up In Black And White)

This marks the first time I’ve ever done a recording of myself reading one of my poems. I kind of like it, because it shows the way I hear it in my head.

The second test copy of my new book arrived today, and I’ve finally got the layout problems figured out. Final edits begin tonight, then the book will go to print tomorrow afternoon :)
